The question or remark I get the most from people is, “I wish I could travel like you!” or “how can I leave my life and travel like you?”

I used to think exactly the same. Travelling was an ‘I wish…’ that I thought may happen someday once I’d saved enough or had some free time. One day when I… have enough money, have someone to travel with, finish studying… etc. It was a dream with no pipeline and life always seemed to get in the way. I’d start dreaming in my head of where I wanted to go and then bam I’d meet a guy, so I’d stay put and pursue a relationship instead, or I’d get a new job, or my bestie would say they’d come with me but in a couple of of months (still waiting, ha!) or I’d think I should start saving for a house deposit, etc etc.

All these obstacles were really just excuses I was making for myself out of fear of the unknown or making the wrong decision and wasting all my hard earned cash on a 6 month spree.

Life unfolds in proportion to your courage. Feel the fear + do it anyway. Get out of your head and follow your heart.

I always thought that I had to have all this money, and that it would take me years to live the life of travel, I’ve always dreamed of. Turns out they were both wrong. If traveling is something you really want to do, then it’s really not that complicated to get to where you want to be. All you have to do is pick a date and destination and go for it! You don’t even have to work for 5 years before you can go, or even 5 months. For my trip to South America, I literally worked my ass off for a couple of months. That’s it. And any job will do!

(Of course it depends on how you want to travel and where you want to travel to, that dictates how much money you have to save up, but regardless you can do it.)

Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.

If you want it – you can make it happen. The job is to get the mind out of the way that tells you that you can’t. Anything is possible. It’s just that a lot of us think that there is a specific plan we have to follow, do a degree, get a decent job, climb the career ladder, buy a house, put a ring on it, have a baby etc. we fear that if we do something different we may end up a homeless, penniless or a crazy cat lady.

So my best advice: Don’t think about societies plan, or what others are doing. Do what you want. Do what feels good to you NOW. Not in 50 years when you’re retired and too wrinkly and old to care to shake your walking stick at a full moon party. It is your life, so make it look like how you want it to. Dream as big as you can, and go for it.
